Interning
Auburn's Office of University Writing; Special Projects Intern (Spring '14)
During my last semester in Auburn, I interned with the Office of University Writing (OUW), which runs the Miller Writing Center (MWC). Since my National Conference for Peer Tutoring and Writing (NCPTW) presentation advocated for writing centers to know and understand their local histories as well as display them on their websites, my job was to construct a history appropriate for the web and to create an archiving system for all documents relating to the OUW's history.
In order to complete my project, I spent countless hours cataloguing and organizing photos, newspaper articles, awards, etc. that the OUW had accumulated. I also spent time in the library's Special Collections and Archives in search of a photograph of the MWC's namesake as well as evidence of Auburn's earliest writing lab or center. By working on this project, I learned more about writing for a webpage, archiving, cataloguing, and the importance of recording and understanding a department's history.
